The Northern Bullants are delighted to announce club champion Tom Wilson has signed on for the 2021 VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition season.

Wilson needs no introduction to Bullants fans after securing three best-and-fairests and captaining the club across his 110 VFL games.

While Wilson helped carry the torch during the club’s time under the Northern Blues banner, he is now set to help take it into an exciting new era in the famous red and white jumper.

“Fraz (Josh Fraser) being coach, Steve Papal (President) and Steven Icke (CEO) along with a couple of others have put in a lot of effort to get the Bullants back to Preston City Oval and I’m stoked to be a part of it,” Wilson told the Leader Newspaper’s Ben Higgins.

“When I debuted we were wearing the Ants jumper and I was fortunate enough to spend a few seasons there, a lot of people invested their time in me, so it’s nice to be able to go back and pull on the jumper.”

Wilson, who missed the best of the 2019 season due to a knee reconstruction, is keener than ever to make his mark on the rebranded competition at his 138-year-old club.

“We’re slowing coming together, there’s still a bit to work through, but the talent I see on the park I’m confident they’ll be able to do a good job for us,” he said.

“We’re certainly not here to make up the numbers, we want to develop every single player, but at the end of the day we want to win games of footy.”

Wilson is currently in the midst of pre-season training with his Bullants teammates.

He is the first of several players to officially sign on for the club’s rebirth. Further signing announcements will be communicated in the coming days.
